How do we get free traffic from Google?

This is something you’ve experienced first hand countless times. You go to Google. Enter in a word or phrase you want to research. Then you click on one of the pages that in displayed. Well, the link you clicked on just send free traffic to that website owner. So the real question is how you get that free traffic.

You probably only visit a link or two from the first page of results. Actually, almost 100% of the free traffic goes to this first page of results. And what’s more, the first 3 get over 70% of the clicks.

So to get any significant amount of free traffic from Google, you really need to be on the first page. And this means Google needs to “rank” you as a top 10 result. And this bring us to…

What is search engine optimization?

Search Engine Optimization is a measure of how well Google and other search engines think your website matches the search terms people are typing into their search boxes. The formula Google uses to determine this is known only by Google. However, we do know a few things that count.

Getting indexed

First, before you can get ranked highly, Google has to know you exist. This is known as being “indexed.” This is when Google looks at your site and take notes about it, which are stored in their database.

Google needs to actually find your site in order to index it. Links from other sites are the easiest way to accomplish this. Since some of these site will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.

Use your Twitter and Facebook updates to get quick indexed links to your site. These sites are very popular so Google indexes them multiple times a day. So your new link will get indexed very quickly.

Gaining ranking

Once you have been indexed, you will start working on increasing your rank. Just getting indexed does you almost no good, considering that Google has billions of pages in their database.

Here’s what’s important in ranking:

• Content
• Links
• Activity

SEO content

This is the SEO you do on your site itself. It’s critical that your page content is consistent with the keyword phrases you’re targeting. The topic of this article is clearly SEO. One way Google figures this out is from the fact that it contains the term SEO. But also because other related words like traffic generation show up in it, as well.

In addition to the content on the page, other things to keep in mind are the title tags on the page, and the domain name itself. These all play a part in helping Google determine what your website is about.

Your links

Next, you need to pay attention to the links to and from your site. This includes both the inbound and outbound links. With inbound links, you want to have more coming in than going out. So the number of inbound links is important.

One great way to get lots of inbound links is through web 2.0 sites. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you’re after. Then create a bunch of different versions of it. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. And quantity is the key here – so do lots and lots.

Increasing your activity

Finally, we know that Google gives you credit for the activity on your site. Static pages that just sit may rank at first, but will fall off over time. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. You can do this with RSS feeds and news posts.

Comments from other people on your page are another fantastic way to keep your content updated. This means you need to get real live people to your site, as well. One simple method for doing this is to use forums.

Set up forum profiles with the ones related to your website. Visit often and make posts. Then put a link to your site in your profile. This gets you inbound links. And it also gets people to your web page.

Conclusion

It’s important that you do everything listed here. Unfortunately, rewriting your articles again and again. Setting up tons of profiles on forums. And visiting all the sites to post up your comments and articles takes a really long time. Which means you probably won’t end up doing it.

Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So the best thing you can do is to automate this process. And then you’re sure to get it done. And not doing it means you will never get free traffic from Google.

Web 2.0 Methods

By web 2.0 we mean any site where the users actually create the content. What this means for you is that you can join into the community and add your own content. And because of the highly interactive and popular nature of these sites, Google and other search engines “index” their content regularly. And that’s important to you because it means that Google and the other search engines treat links from these sites as more meaningful than links from other sites. So, if you place links to your own site inside your content, you get a search engine ranking benefit from those links. The direct traffic from the Web 2.0 sites themselves is only part of the benefit. There are many more web 2.0 traffic tactics we don’t have time to get into here, but this will get you started.

Articles Sites

The next thing we want to talk about is article marketing. Article directories fall under the category of web 2.0 sites. Just like web 2.0 sites, article websites allow you to upload your own content – as articles. And because they are also considered authority sites by the search engines you get all the benefits of other web 2.0 sites just by putting your articles on them. But you also get the extra benefit of other users taking your article and putting it on their site. And in return for getting to use your content, these other users include links back to your website that gives you further search engine ranking and more free traffic. If you want to generate traffic from articles follow these steps:

• First, spend the time to determine your keywords
• Tailor the content of your article for the keywords
• Hyperlink these keywords to your website – both in the content of the article and in your author’s info section.

Video

The last of this group is video marketing. Here to we’re really looking at a web 2.0 sub-category. So, just like article marketing, video marketing enables you to add content to authority sites. And if all that wasn’t enough, you also stand a much stronger chance of getting a high search engine ranking for the keywords you want with video than you do with text-based content.

Here are just a few video marketing tips:

• Get a YouTube account
• Make your profile uncluttered by turning off all the modules
• Put relevant “tags” in your profile
• Make sure to include in your profile a link to your site
• Add at least one video to your profile
• Include your keywords in the title, description and tags

In closing…
